So while they may learn history, math, and science in school they learn social skills and learn how to love from their parents. Play with your children often, it will show them how to follow rules, play with others, work towards a specific goal, and will help them strengthen emotional bonds with others.



Keep up with their interests and activities as your children grow. When you show interest in who they are and what they enjoy doing, they will be more likely to want you to participate in these activities with them. If you adolescent is learning a new sport, learn it with them, or offer to help them practice if you are already proficient. Be wary of intruding on their space, though; adolescents will want to participate in some activities on their own. This is an important part of their development as they are learning to become independent adults. If you find that you and your adolescent are spending very little time together, however, and don't seem to have much in common, discuss your concerns and try to find a new sport or activity that you can learn to do together. So bottom line, don't rely too heavily on parenting styles. Do what feels right for you and your child.
